Special Cells & Committees

In addition to Academic functioning of the college, Mounts also promotes co-curricular activities that help in the holistic education of the students. Several special cells have been set up for this purpose:

Human Rights and Legal Literacy Cell

The Human Rights Cell and the Legal Literacy Cell of Mount Carmel College (Autonomous) work hand-in-hand in coordination with the Department of Sociology. Their main objective is to create awareness about legal issues among the students and the public and also provide legal aid to the ones in need. They also strive to bridge the gap between the misconceptions and realities of life.

The human rights and legal literacy cell has conducted numerous guest talks and interactive sessions with legal experts on women's rights, human rights, family laws and child rights to name a few. They have organized and participated in rallies dedicated to issues like gender discrimination, violence and anti-corruption.

The cell, in coordination with the South Indian Cell for Human Rights and Educational Monitoring (SICHREM), celebrates the International Human Rights Day which falls on the 10th of December with great zeal.

Some of the organizations that the Human Rights and Legal Literacy Cell work with include:

  1. The Alternate Law Forum
  2. Indian Social Institute
