Regulations

Each student accepts the responsibility to uphold the standards of the college, whether on or off the campus. We welcome you with the confidence that you will live up to the ideals of the Mount Carmel College, and co-operate fully with the staff and authorities of the College in the ongoing process of your education.

  • The day begins with a common prayer in which all participate.
  • Identity cards should be carried by the students at all times, which should be shown to the authorized persons when demanded.
  • Students are expected to wear simple and modest clothing.
  • Use of mobile phones in class is banned.
  • Refinement should be observed especially in the canteen and care should be taken to keep it litter free.
  • All stray and unclaimed property shall be brought to the Principal's office.
  • Excursions if any, of long or short duration shall be organized by the College authorities only. There shall be no class picnics organised by students without the permission of the principal.
  • Students are not allowed to see their visitors in college. They will kindly have the letters, money orders and other communications addressed to their home or hostels.


  • Record of attendance should be maintained. Attendance shall be taken at the beginning of each hour (lecture, practical or tutorial).
  • It is compulsory for the students to maintain a minimum of 75% attendance in all subjects to be eligible to appear for the end semester exams.
  • In case of absence, leave letters must be addressed to the Principal and countersigned by the Parent/ Guardian/ Warden. Leave application for reasons of illness beyond three to four days must be accompanied by a medical certificate and medical bills.
  • In order to claim attendance, the attendance sheet must be signed by all subject teachers and handed over to the class mentor.



Every student has to enrol and complete atleast three Certificate courses/ Honours programmes over three years in addition to the courses in Value Education, Indian constitution, Human rights, Environmental Studies and Basics in Computers. For eg. Sports, Music, Dance, NCC, NSS, Outreach programmes, working with NGOs etc. (for details please refer to Students Handbook).

  • Discipline should be maintained in class. Insubordinate and rude behaviour of any kind against the staff of the college will be strictly dealt with. Repeated violation of rules can lead to rustication.
  • Students are expected to treat the buildings, furniture and equipment with great care. Any loss or destruction of these will be chargeable, individually or collectively.
  • Strikes and similar demonstrations are not allowed, however, a respectful representation of grievances will be looked into.
  • There shall be no money raised for any purpose whatsoever, without the permission of the principal.
  • No books, pamphlets, papers, banners or posters will be circulated or exhibited by the students, nor tickets for any programme sold within the premises, without the prior permission of the Principal.
  • Discipline is the sole concern of the institution. No student can go to the media or any other organization with their grievances.

Bangalore Univeristy norms expects Under Graduate Students to study 3 core subjects over 6 semesters. In addition there are 2 compulsory subjects over 4 semesters - General English and II language under autonomous. Mount Carmel offers a wide range of choices for II language.
