Department of Interior Design and Management

The Interior Design Management Department of Mount Carmel College introduces students to the basic fundamentals of drawing, design, construction and landscaping. The department has a well planned course structure and a highly qualified faculty. It examines the use of drafting equipment, multi-view drawing techniques, simple architectural construction and its pictorial representation, quick sketching techniques, and rendering of various textures and applications of color to drawings. This course gives the students the creative awareness, attitude, imagination and technical knowledge required for this profession.

This course focuses on basic drawing, design, structures and landscaping. The Interior design department emphasizes on teaching its students to utilize interior design theory and demonstrate the knowledge of theory and to apply the essential knowledge and skills in architectural interior design to work-based learning experiences.

•    Students with a creative mind, a flair for innovative thinking, basic drawing skills and working knowledge in computers are eligible to join this course.

•    There is no entrance exam. Pre –university board or any board equivalent to or +2 or higher secondary board with 50% aggregate marks in any stream of Science, Arts and Commerce are eligible for the course.


There are a few credit courses co-ordinated by the departments which are open to students from other departments as well.
•    A diploma in Interior Decoration
•    A certificate course in Architecture
•    Compulsory credits on Rhino and 3 D Max.



•    This department has a number of Academic tie-ups with Premier Design Institutes.
•    Students participate in various national level intercollegiate competitions.
•    Many exhibitions are held throughout the year to display the students' work.
•    Intercollegiate exhibitions on Visual Merchandising products.
•    Exhibitions on the furniture designs and products.
•    Exhibition on Window Display and Color schemes
•    The Department of Interior Design & Management has also started an exclusive Consultancy services for everyone on concept, theme, designing, low cost materials and execution of services.
•    An intercollegiate workshop and seminar was conducted on March 4th 2010 along with the official launch of Consultancy NeoArch Desings.

Projects:
Being a relatively new department, the students aren't given many big projects or assignments. During the year as internals, students are given smaller assignments on which they are graded. Only in the Final semester each student has a project for 150 marks. They have to work on concept, design and implement the concept inclusive on rate analysis, material board, theme board and history of the design.

Organizing sales :The Department organizes an annual sale with the help of the students of the sixth semester. The students are required to come up with their own products, be it food, jewels, candles, bags or table mats and sell these products, to gain some practical experience in marketing and sales techniques.

Internships: A 75 day Internship (350-400hrs) is compulsory for each student. These students are trained under various architects and designers. An assessment is done based on the Internship report and architects remarks.

Employment record: Some of our Students have worked with the famous Architects like Mr. Jaisim, Mr. Rathi and few have worked with upcoming designers to get more hands on experience.
