Department of Fashion And Apparel Design (FAD)

The department of fashion and apparel design in Mount Carmel college provides the students a secure and stimulating environment where students gain knowledge of all aspects of the fashion industry — Design, art, science, technology, & management. It's a 3 year B.Sc Degree Course which offers high quality education, well-structured courses and most importantly a highly capable faculty. This course ensures that students are kept aware of changing demands and opportunities within the fashion industry and they are taught to hone their technical abilities and their knowledge of the industry. Our Faculty also combines teaching with careers within the industry.

This course emphasizes on the understanding of the science and art behind fashion. It focuses on 4 main areas of fashion - Design, Pattern making, Technology and Management. Students are encouraged to go out of their way and explore the fashion world. In the course of 6 semesters, students are taught about fibres, textures, patterns, design, and merchandising and about the changing trends in the market.

•    There is an Entrance Test conducted by the college. School leaving marks will be considered in conjunction with the marks awarded at the entrance test.

•    Direct admission to III Semester for students with 3 year Diploma in Textile Technology Costumes and Fashion Design (from Department of Technical Education, Govt. of Karnataka) Diploma in Handloom and Textile Technology (from Min. Of Textiles Govt of India)

•    Students need to have a creative, yet logical mind that is fashion conscious, and can take a practical approach to transfer creative thinking into wearable garments.

•    Participation in various inter-collegiate ,national and international level fashion competitions
•    Fashion shows at class level to showcase their work

•    Organising Exhibition and sales
•    Fashionista- the annual intercollegiate cultural fest and mela
•    Paper presentation by students at national seminars
•    Working with costumes for dance groups, theatre groups and fashion shows

Projects:
Students are given various projects to work on throughout the year, on which they are graded and marked. They are given well-deserved credit for their work.
•    Industry design and model hunt competition
•    Industry projects for textile testing
•    Students dissertation work

Internships :
At the end of the each semesters the students are given the choice of internships with various people/ industries within the fashion world, to give them the knowledge and experience of what it's like, working in this industry.
•    Some of our ex students have worked with various designers like Manoviraj Khosla, Namrata.G and Sanchita Ajjampur.
•    Our students have interned with various Garment and apparel industries like Shahi exports, pantaloons, Gokaldas images, urban yoga, etc.
•    They have also been appointed to work in small boutiques and designer outlets

•    Some of our ex-students are now working with designers like Ritu Beri, Neetu Kumar and Krishna Mani
•    Our students have also Students designed costumes for Frankfinn Airhostess training academy.
•    Many of our students have established their own accessory outlets.
