Department of Travel & Tourism

The tourism industry contributes more than $3 trillion in gross global output, which translates into millions of jobs worldwide. Tourism is the largest service industry in India, with a contribution of 6.23% to the national GDP and 8.78% of the total employment in India.

The Travel and Tourism programme at Mount Carmel College offers many innovative opportunities that blend academic and practical experience from a range of disciplines and areas of study. This means you will never be bored - there is always something new to interest you - and it is supported by a staff who are approachable, interested in your learning and who value your input into your own learning process.

Our goal is to provide you with a thorough understanding of the academic disciplines surrounding the tourism industry and our approach is business management-oriented recognizing the multidisciplinary nature of the sector of the economy we operate in. You will therefore have the flexibility to study Travel and Tourism together with other subjects.

Travel and Tourism links particularly well with subjects such as – Accountancy, Business Studies, Financial Management, History and Journalism and hence we at Mount Carmel have two combinations to offer:

  • Business Management and Travel and Tourism (BMTT)
  • History, Journalism and Travel and Tourism (HJTT)

As tourism is a very practical and customer focused industry, we would strongly encourage students to gain industry experience by working during the summer breaks (one internship is compulsory), learning new languages and opting for the various Credit Courses as would enhance their effectiveness and employability. Students can therefore opt for a BMTT or an HJTT course, the former being offered as a degree in Commerce and the latter in Arts. We also train students with the latest computerized reservation systems such as Amadeus.

CREDIT COURSES OFFERED:
Travel Management, Fares and E- ticketing (Four Credits)

Our institution has developed excellent contacts with a wide range of employers in the industry and this ensures our graduates are easily employable and enjoy excellent promotion prospects. Our students are placed with organizations like The Oberoi group, Thomas Cook, Carlson Wagonlit Travels, Kingfisher, Equations and SOTC to name a few.
