As per the Bangalore University guidelines, each student is required to study one Second Language. Tamil is one of the languages offered. The course follows the semester system so students are needed to study the subject for a period of 4 semesters/2 years (with an exception of BBM students, who are required to study Second Language for only one year). Each student is tested by a Continuous Internal Evaluation system, which includes tests, projects, assignments and quizzes. At the end of each semester an End Semester Exam is held. The objectives of the department are: • To promote Tamil as a language and culture. • To enhance the speaking and writing skills of the students. • The beauty of the language and its literature is lost to all those who don't understand it. A constant effort is being made by colleges to revive the language and keep it from fading out.
